During August 27th Impact Wrestling Sanada, accompanied by Storm, debuted as "The Great Sanada" with a new look inspired by The Great Muta. He would then defeat Austin Aries, with help from Storm. On the September 3 episode of Impact Wrestling, Storm and Sanada abducted former X Division Champion Manik following his loss in a 6-man #1 contenders match for the X Division strap. On the following Impact Storm was shown initiating Manik, much like he did Sanada, into his new faction. Manik would return from the woodshed with a new look in August 2014 to attack Homicide and Joe post their X Division title match. A new faction was here. The Revolution was finally upon us… And it was great!
In October 2014 Impact Wrestling announced that James Storm and The Great Sanada would battle The Great Muta and Tajiri in the main event of BFG 2014. The pair would lose the match and, despite putting a beat down on Muta and Tajiri, be chased from the ring and event by Team 3D.
Post BFG, Revolution would seemingly fizzle away into nothing. They would have a brief angle were they unsuccessfully attempted to recruit The Wolves' Davey Richards, which led to very little. They would never go on to establishing, let alone achieving, any goals and the whole thing began to feel like an ill thought-out attempt to cash in on the praise WWE were receiving for Bray Wyatt’s entry to the main roster over on Raw. Sanada would soon exit the group to return to Japan with no real explanation given.
After a great angle with Bram that didn’t include Revolution and an angle with Magnus that is frankly best forgotten considering the payoff (choo choo) there is little to be optimistic about in regards to this group moving in any direction from here on in, especially now that James Storm is apparently off the TNA books.
So, this is how I would have done it!
BFG 2014, Storm and Sanada go over Tajiri and Muta (largely due to outside interference from Manik.)
Post-match Sanada and Storm put the beats on Muta and The Buzzsaw, just as it happened on the night. Team 3D would make the save accompanied by Dreamer, who they faced and shook hands with earlier on in the evening. Here is where I deviate; instead of cutting a promo on Bullet Club (and going seemingly into business for themselves) I would instruct Bully, Dreamer and Devon to instead call out Revolution promising each member a trip through the plywood.
So we’re back in Orlando (and OK Storm and Sanada would and should instantly feud with the Dudley’s however they left so let’s keep it real). Tommy Dreamer is attacked backstage by Sanada and Manik. Later in the evening Storm cuts a promo stating that anyone who stands in the way of his revolution will be ‘dealt with’. Dreamer, displaying the beat down he took earlier, comes out to challenge Storm and The Revolution to a match the following week. Dreamer says ‘if it’s a revolution he wants, let’s make it a hard-core revolution’ and his partner will be The Monster Abyss. One week passes and its Dreamer and Abyss vs Sanada and Manik in a Monsters Ball Tornado Match. During the match Abyss is seemingly working well with Tommy and, after gaining momentum, Dreamer hits Sanada with a DDT. He turns to the crowd to taunt and…SWERVE! Black Hole Slam! Storm makes his way to the ring, mic in hand, to reveal the newest member of Revolution… Abyss. The beats are poured on Tommy and he is written off T.V for the foreseeable future.
November 2014- Manik and Sanada challenge The Wolves for the tag titles in a series of 5 which results in Revolution winning the tag titles. The team, with help from Abyss, go on to successfully defend the straps until the UK Tour in January 2015 in which they lose the belts in an Ultimate X to former champs The Wolves.
It is at this time Storm begin to lose sight of the groups aims. The descent has begun. He insists all members pledge to himself prior to and post every match. During this period both Manik and Abyss would start to take losses from the likes of The Wolves, Austin Aries, and other notable stars. It becomes routine that post any revolution match in which a member has lost Storm will publicly flog the losing member and then make him pledge his allegiance to James Storm.
April 2015- TNA would be in the midst of a tournament to crown a new X Division Champion. Papa James makes it abundantly clear he expects…Nay, Demands a Revolution win from Manik! The tournament plays out and Manik, needless to say, is beaten in the finals by Tigre Uno. Post main event Storm comes to the ring as has become expected with Abyss and Sanada. Manik is beaten by the bearded lunatic but when the time comes for him to pledge… He refuses. Manik is slapped and beaten again! He is asked again… Manik spits in the face of James! Black Hole Slam! Manik is put down…The show closes with Abyss holding up a limp Manik and James removing the fallen pledge’s mask, laying him bare in the ring….fade to black (edgy enough for ya!...and not a single train was delayed in the making of this angle!)
During the following week’s episode of Impact, James and co. are cutting a promo in ring regarding the removal of Manik and how he couldn’t cut it, but its ok because there’s always room for one more yada yada, when out of the crowd…Its TJ Perkins! He rushes the ring clearing Abyss with some flashy springboard maneuver as well as dropping Sanada with a Knees to Face! James exits stage left and grabs a mic. Storm berates Perkins calling him out for tonight’s main event. Perkins takes the challenge and and… Due to an error by Abyss (botching a save attempt for James and nailing him with a body splash), Takes the win! Post-match, Perkins rushes to the back before catching a beat down. James is irate; he destroys chairs and monitors before turning on Abyss. Abyss attempts to calm down James but is slapped in the face…twice! Three times…Black Hole Slam!
In the weeks that follow Perkins and Abyss team up on several occasions to face Storm and Sanada. Storm continues his evil ways; beating on Sanada and generally blaming him for every loss while Perkins and Abyss seemingly move on unscathed by the events and with a new lease lease of life and face push's. In Abyss’ case he goes back to being the non-threat he was prior to joining James (there’s only so much any creative mind can do in regards to elevating Abyss at this stage to anything more than he is). Perkins becomes a mainstay of the X Division, Storm is a main event heel…and no one got damaged in the process.
In the meantime, Storm has taken Sanada back to the woodshed. After losing to Perkins and Abyss, and a public flogging of Sanada, vignettes would start to air during the following weeks broadcast similar to the original Sanada/Storm barn sit in's … Only in these, Storm seems even more erratic. We see Sanada tied and gagged again whilst Storm circles waxing lyrical about a sacrifice needing to be made to light the fuse. It’s all very dark. The final vignette of the night sees a close up camera on what appears to be a wild fire…As the camera pans, we see the sight of a burning barn. The camera pans even further for the shows final reveal; James Storm with a can of gasoline laughing maniacally towards the now hard camera.
Sanada is written out and free to go back to Japan, and we can only imagine Storm is in hiding for attempted (not outright) murder. Several weeks go by, vignettes start to air; dark post revolution vignettes (think creepy Undertaker 'He's Here' promos.) These air for several weeks before Storm makes his abrupt return to Impact. He starts attacking Kurt Angle. Storm is back! Part Raven, part Taker. Heck a bit Joker if you like!
Perkins is flying high in the X Division, Sanada has left with the door open for a huge return feud, and Storm is your bona fide super heel face of evil main eventer!
