Dixie Carter cut a promo with the TNA roster around the ring. She announced a five-way #1 contender's match, with the winner facing EC3 for the World Title at Bound For Glory. Eric Young said he has an iron clad contract and then Dixie set up a lumberjack match between EY and Chris Melendez. Good start to tonight's show. Simple, entertaining promos from all involved.
Chris Melendez defeated Eric Young in a lumberjack match. I thought Melendez did an admirable job wrestling on one leg. That was a nice touch to have the roster rally behind Sarge as he reclaimed his leg. While this whole feud has been boring and one-sided, at least the ending was satisfying and well done.
Gail Kim defeated Jade to retain the Knockouts Title. The Dollhouse attacked Gail before the Beautiful People made the save. Gail and Kong had a staredown in the ring. Fun match. Gail and Jade have great chemistry together. I definitely want to see more in the future. The Knockouts are delivering quality matches again. Good to see.
Tigre Uno defeated Kenny King to retain the X Division Title. Solid back and forth action. The X Division is basically random exhibition matches every other week. Tigre has beaten everybody at this point. Please rotate some new challengers from outside of TNA.
EC3 defeated Rockstar Spud to retain the World Title. EC3 ordered Jeff to end Spud's career, but Jeff refused as he and Matt took out EC3 and Tyrus. Good match. EC3 continues to rack up those title defenses and elevate his character at the same time.
James Storm cut a promo about the Revolution and their failures. Abyss and Manik stood up to Storm and walked out. Mahabali Shera challenged Storm to a match, but Storm said they'll fight on his time. Wow, that was damn good! Abyss and TJP showed some fire in that segment. Finally the Revolution is over, and TJP loses the mask. Awesome.
Drew Galloway defeated Lashley, Davey Richards, Eddie Edwards and Bram in a five-way elimination match to become the #1 contender to the World Title at Bound For Glory. Fun match. I liked the energy and mix of styles in this match. Drew is certainly the right choice to headline BFG against EC3. That should be a great main event. Now they just need to build it in one week, which is no small task.
EC3 demanded that Jeff Hardy get on his knees and beg to keep his job. Jeff said he quit and walked out. Nice followup from earlier tonight. The EC3/Jeff pairing was fun while it lasted, but they really needed to get this out of the way to focus on BFG. Based on the teaser, it looks like Jeff will be the special referee for the main event.
Overall, this was a good show. There was some good wrestling tonight, plus a few matches announced for BFG and a few nice promos. BFG is shaping up to be a fun card on paper. It should be interesting to see the "Countdown to Glory" next week.
