Drew Galloway won a 20-man battle royal, last eliminating Eric Young to earn a TNA title shot later tonight. This was a huge mess, since most of the eliminations occurred during the commercial break. The final sequence wasn't anything special either. At least they got from Point A to Point B.
Tigre Uno defeated Grado, DJ Z and Rockstar Spud in a four-way match to retain the X Division Championship. Tigre pinned Grado with the Sabertooth Splash. Damn, this was very bland for an X Division match. Aside from Tigre doing a few flips, there was too much comedy with Grado and Spud. Even the finish looked horrible as Tigre landed on Grado's leg. Seriously, the X Division needs some actual buildup and storylines.
Brooke defeated Taryn Terrell to become the new Knockouts Champion. Gail Kim took out the Dollhouse and then Brooke capitalized with the Butterface Maker on Taryn for the win. I liked the psychology of this match, with Taryn dominating the offense until Brooke made the comeback. The finish was a little anti-climactic but made sense. Congratulations to Brooke — now she has a legitimate reason to be happy!
Kurt Angle cut a promo announcing that he needs surgery to remove a tumor in his neck. Eric Young attacked Angle before Chris Melendez made the save. EY gave Melendez a piledriver on the floor. EY continues to impress me with his antics. "Bearded Terror" is such an appropriate name.
There was a replay of James Storm vs. Magnus from Slammiversary followed by a short promo to hype the mixed tag match in two weeks.
EC3 defeated Drew Galloway to retain the TNA World Championship. Eli Drake turned on Galloway, leading to the One Percenter from EC3 for the win. Solid match. The finish was predictable, but a good turn nonetheless. Drake has the skills and charisma to be one of the top stars in TNA, and being a cocky heel suits him nicely. I like the prospect of a Drake/Galloway feud to put over both guys simultaneously.
Overall, this was a decent show. The opening promo served its purpose and the title matches were pretty enjoyable for the most part. Some parts felt a little off, though. They did, however, set up some nice angles with Drake/Galloway, Gail/Taryn and the mixed tag match. Let's see what Bully brings to the table as the GM going forward.
