Dixie Carter opened the show by putting over TNA's move to Pop. EC3 interrupted and vowed to win the World Title tonight. Matt Hardy came out, but Eric Young attacked him before Lashley made the save. All four guys had a huge brawl that ended with Matt taking everybody out with a crossbody. Hot start to tonight's show. The set looks awesome.
EC3 defeated Lashley to advance to the World Title Series finals. Good match. Both guys were very aggressive and worked well together. My only gripe was the Tyrus interference, but it was a hard-fought win for EC3 as he moves closer to regaining the title he never lost. It looks like they're doing the obvious EC3/Hardy final in the main event.
Kurt Angle talked about his career and announced his farewell tour from TNA. Angle said he has handpicked Drew Galloway as his opponent for next week. Drew thanked Kurt for the opportunity, but Jessie Godderz and Eli Drake interrupted and said they are the future. Drew and Kurt beat up Eli and Jessie to end the segment. Nice promos from all four guys. I like this pairing of Eli and Jessie. Also looking forward to Angle vs. Galloway next week.
Matt Hardy defeated Eric Young to advance to the World Title Series finals. EY played his role perfectly as he tried to injure Matt throughout the match. Not sure Jeff's involvement was really necessary, but I liked the midair Twist of Fate for the win.
Bobby Roode defeated Bram to retain the King of the Mountain Title. Bram and Eric Young attacked Roode after the match. James Storm made the save and drank some beer with Roode. Yes! Beer Money is back! And Storm is back to being a fun-loving redneck. Great to see. The match was pretty decent, but nothing to write home about.
Beer Money challenged Bram and Eric Young to a tag match at One Night Only this Friday on PPV. So we got Beer Money, EY/Bram and possibly Drake/Godderz. It looks like TNA is slowly rebuilding the tag division with their current roster. I hope they announced more matches for ONO Live.
Gail Kim, Velvet Sky and Madison Rayne defeated the Dollhouse in a six-person tag match when Gail pinned Jade with a rollup. Awesome Kong turned heel and attacked Gail after the match. Whoa, Kong is aligned with the Dollhouse. I did not see that coming at all. I guess it could be an interesting twist for Kong's character - maybe she speaks more.
Maria came out and introduced Mike Bennett as the Miracle. Bennett cut a promo saying pro wrestling needs a miracle and he is here to save TNA. Great acquisitions for TNA. Bennett made a statement with that promo and came off like a rising star in the process. Maria did a nice job with the intro and looked gorgeous as usual.
The Wolves challenged Kurt Angle and Drew Galloway to a tag match. Eli Drake and Jessie Godderz interrupted to turn it into a three-way at One Night Only.
EC3 defeated Matt Hardy to become the new TNA World Heavyweight Champion. Great match. Lots of counters, false finishes and hard-hitting moves. The One Percenter from the top rope was awesome. Matt's post-match reaction was well done. Congrats to EC3!
Overall, I enjoyed tonight's show. It was a fun night of matches, moments and surprises rolled into one. They established some new tag teams, built up Kurt Angle's farewell tour, debuted two new talents, crowned the right champion and even hyped the PPV in a couple of days. Kudos to the roster and the staff for a very eventful start on Pop TV.
