Jeff Hardy called out Matt to discuss the title vs. career match tonight. Tyrus interrupted and challenged Jeff to a match. Nice way to put over the significance of the main event.
Jeff Hardy beat Tyrus by disqualification. I have to say, TNA is doing a good job covering multiple bases in one segment. In this case they hyped the main event, followed up Jeff's insult to Tyrus and did a short impromptu match to start the show.
There was a weird segment with Crazzy Steve and another person attacking the Wolves during a backstage promo. It looks like Steve is now a full-blown heel competing in the tag division. The more teams, the merrier.
Gail Kim defeated Awesome Kong to retain the Knockouts Title. I never thought I'd see so many shenanigans in a Gail/Kong match, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The finish with Gail throwing Jade on Kong was pretty cool. I'm getting tired of the same match-ups, though.
Beer Money defeated Eli Drake and Jessie Godderz. So far, it seems like Eli and Jessie are presented as foils to the babyface teams. Meanwhile, Beer Money are still as sharp as ever, hitting their signature moves and garnering a nice reaction.
Kurt Angle talked about his farewell tour before Lashley came out and challenged him to a match. Good segment. It was almost like an MMA promo without the lame hoopla. Angle's farewell tour is all about high quality matches, and Angle vs. Lashley fits the bill.
There was a segment with Raquel introducing herself to Lashley. Raquel said Lashley's pain will be her pleasure. Well, that was a nice teaser for a new storyline. Raquel comes off like a femme fatale, which could add an interesting layer to Lashley's character.
Mike Bennett defeated Pepper Parks. First off, Bennett's entrance is awesome. Maria does an enchanting intro before it jumps to a catchy song. While Bennett has yet to stand out as a wrestler, his showmanship and mic skills are very impressive.
Matt Hardy defeated EC3 in a Last Man Standing match to become the new TNA World Heavyweight Champion. Both guys reversed roles as Tyrus turned on EC3. Wow, that was an excellent match. I loved the storytelling, the brutality, and the execution. I'm not too upset about the title change because EC3 fought like a hero to the death. Even the crowd was hot and sold the drama leading to the finish. Great performances from both men.
Matt cut an intense promo calling himself "Big Money Matt". He bashed EC3 with a chair before leaving with Reby and Tyrus. Yep, that was a great way to complete the turn. The buildup may have been predictable, but the booking was flawless. Kudos to the announcers for adding to the story. Huge thumbs up for a hell of a show!
